About this listen
"The training levels have concluded. Now the games may truly begin."
The ratings and views are off the chart. The fans just can't get enough. The dungeon gets more dangerous each day. But in a grinder designed to chew up and spit out crawlers by the millions, Carl and Princess Donut need to work harder than ever just to survive.
They call it the Over City. A sprawling, once-thriving metropolis devastated by a mysterious calamity. But these streets are far from abandoned. An undead circus trawls the ruins. Murdered prostitutes rain from the sky. An ancient spell is finally ready to reveal its dark purpose.
Carl still has no pants.
They call it Dungeon Crawler World. For Carl and Donut, it's anything but a game.

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Europe stares into the abyss. Plague and famine stalk the land, monsters lurk in every shadow and greedy princes care for nothing but their own ambitions. Only one thing is certain: the elves will come again, and they will eat everyone. Sometimes, only the darkest paths lead towards the light. Paths on which the righteous will not dare to tread. And so, buried beneath the sacred splendour of the Celestial Palace, is the secret Chapel of the Holy Expediency.

Hadrian Marlowe, privileged first son of a Duke, was destined for greatness, and he has become a legend. The Sun-Slayer. The Breaker of Sieges. The Crusher of Civilisations. His is a story which defined the course of worlds. This novel is not that story - not the only laid out in the history books, charting the 300 years of his life. Rather this is Hadrian's story, told in his own worlds.

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Find a membership that's right for you.Written by Matt Dinniman, Dungeon Crawler Carl tells the tale of the end of the world. Earth has missed out on a payment on a deal that happened 2,000 years ago, and the people who made the deal decided that it wouldn’t be a good thing to tell us about it.
Earth’s resources are therefore forfeit as are the lives of every organism on the planet. But there is a slim impossible hope.
You see, Earth doesn’t have anything worth anything. The aliens make their money through a dangerous reality TV show, where the dangers are real. And this time we are the participants.
Plot:
In Carl’s Doomsday Scenario, Carl has survived the first and second floor, but the third floor is a different kind of animal all together. We start the story with Carl and Princess Donut choosing their classes and race.
Unlike the 1st and 2nd floor, the third is a massive open world, which players from around the world can interact with one another. It also means that there are quests involved.
Now Carl and Donut are not only fighting against mobs and player killers, but the game show writers who are willing to sacrifice the players in order to get better ratings.
Quests may offer better loot and experience, but it might not be worth the hassle. It’s too bad that Carl and Donut don’t have a choice in the matter.
But it isn’t the psychotic zombie clowns, the zealot city elves, or sky fowls that Carl has to worry about. His real enemies are the ones hovering above the Earth.
Characters:
Carl is once again the main character of the book. This time he is stronger faster and outfitted with enough bombs to make everyone around him very nervous. He hasn’t changed much since the first book, which isn’t surprising because it has only been a few weeks since he first entered the dungeon,
His confidence has grown but not enough to tempt fate. Not taking chances, Carl prefers to obliterate his enemies at a distance. Too bad he rarely so lucky to do so.
He has made it a goal to cause as much suffering as he can to people who destroyed Earth, and their stupid game.
Supporting Carl, in the dungeon and the interview room, Princess Donut has somewhat grown since the first book. She isn’t as naive as people think she is, however, she still focuses more on her views than she really should. She hates it when people think bad of her. During the book the talking Persian cat gets more empathetic to the NPCs and other players.
Mordecai has become a fixture within the team. Still morning the loss of his dead family, the shapeshifter’s main goal remains the same. Get out of the show, and if he has to keep the two bumbling Earthlings alive to do it, then so be it.
In the second book, Mordecai is no longer restrained to the system AI and is able to help both Carl and Donut by providing them with the most valuable thing in the dungeon. Information.
What I like:
Another fantastic story to the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. In interviews Dinniman explained that his first book was an experiment. Something on his bucket list that he wanted to get out there. And in his second book he has decided to get a bit deeper into the lore and the game system.
The narrator does another fantastic job. Again, if this ever does turn into a serious, I would like Jeff Hays to Carl.
Criticism:
I get the feeling that some of the quests in the book were shortened for a reason. Most likely, the author didn’t want to spend the entire book loitering around a single quest. So, he broke it up into two main quests.
Overall:
If you liked the first book, the second one is going to hit all the right buttons.
Another fantastic job
